What this site is
SELF Principle publishes general health education for the public. Everything here, including the videos, show notes, guides, newsletter, and downloadable resources, is educational. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment plan, and not a substitute for care from a clinician who knows your history, your labs, and your medications.
No doctor and patient relationship
Reading this site, watching a video, subscribing to the newsletter, downloading a guide, or sending a message through the contact form does not create a doctor and patient relationship with Sean Hashmi, MD or with SELF Principle. We cannot answer questions about your personal health, medications, or test results.
In an emergency
If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. Do not wait for a reply from this site.
Medicine changes
Guidelines and evidence change over time. We correct pages when we learn something we published is wrong or out of date, but content may not reflect the newest research at the moment you read it. Always confirm with your own physician.
Individual results differ
What helps one person may not help another. Age, kidney function, other conditions, and medications all change what is safe and what works for you.
What we do not take
SELF Principle does not run advertising. We do not accept sponsored content or paid segments in our health education. The one exception is the Sports Scholarship, which accepts charitable sponsors who fund student awards; those sponsors have no influence over our content and are disclosed on the scholarship page. We do not use affiliate links and we earn no commission when a product is mentioned. Dr. Hashmi is not paid by, and holds no advisory role or financial stake in, any supplement, device, food, or pharmaceutical company discussed on this site. Nothing here is a paid endorsement, because we do not accept payment for endorsements. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed on this page before it appears in any content.
How this work is funded
This site is funded by donations to SELF Principle, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 82-2660081. Dr. Hashmi also earns income from YouTube advertising on his channel, which YouTube places and we do not select or control, and from his own separate professional work, including his book and speaking. That work is kept separate from what is taught here.
Independence
Dr. Hashmi's clinical and leadership roles are separate from SELF Principle. The content on this site reflects his own reading of the evidence and does not represent the views or policies of any employer, hospital system, or professional organization.
